Earlier this year while conducting a field training session for new metal detector owners, I was asked by one of my students whether or not I still got excited when I dug a small nugget. A series of 14 treasure trove inquests held in Norwich saw fashionable trinkets, tools and coins, ranging from 400 to 2,000 years old, that have been discovered in the county classed as treasure.
I found this quite moving story about a U.S marine who has laid in the fields of Northern France since 1917 after being killed in action by a German machine gun. He had been found by French nationals while they were out with a metal detector hunting war artifacts. The Marine was buried with full military honours in Arlington cemetary. This is an incredilbe find with a metal detector in Cumbria and its for sale at Christies on the 7th October its dated by Christies as 1st to 3rd Century. The famous auctioners believe it could bring £200.000 to £300,000 which considering its age is quite low. A really interesting article which you can read here.
